The goal of the day is to empathise with and comprehend the hardship of refugees, as well as to celebrate their perseverance in rebuilding their lives. “Whoever. Wherever. Whenever.” is the theme of World Refugee Day 2022. “It is everyone’s right to seek safety.” The right to seek refuge, safe entry (open borders), no coercion to return to their home country, no discrimination at borders, and compassionate treatment are all examples of human rights. On June 20, 2001, the day was established to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Refugee Convention, which helped to safeguard refugees. Originally, it was known as Africa Refugee Day.
