Prime Minister Modi will preside over the first National Conference of Chief Secretaries. | PM Modi will address the First National Conference of Chief Secretaries on the 16th and 17th of June at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. This will be a significant step in strengthening the relationship between the federal and state governments. The National Conference of Chief Secretaries will be held from June 15 to 17, 2022. Around 200 people from the central government, all states/UTs, and subject experts will attend the conference. The three-day conference will focus on how to collaborate with states to achieve quick and sustained economic growth. World Blood Donor Day is set on June 14, 2022. | World Blood Donor Day is celebrated every year on June 14th. It is observed to increase awareness of the value of blood and blood products, the necessity of blood donation, and the safety of blood transfusions. “Donating blood is an act of unity,” is the theme of World Blood Donor Day 2022. “Join the fight to save lives.” Karl Landsteiner, the man who discovered and classified the ABO blood groups, was born on this day. The World Health Organization designated June 14 as World Blood Donor Day in 2004. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies was founded in 1919 with the purpose of raising global awareness of the need of healthy people safely donating blood. Mexico will be the host nation for World Blood Donor Day 2022. Blood is a type of connective tissue that transports oxygen and nutrients to the body’s cells. Ambassador Rabab Fatima has been appointed as the United Nations’ Under-Secretary-General. | On June 9, 2022, UN Secretary-General António Guterres announced Ambassador Fatima’s appointment. Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations is Ambassador Rabab Fatima. She will also serve as the United Nations’ High Representative for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS). She replaces Jamaican Courtenay Rattray. Chef of Cabinet Courtenay Rattray has been appointed. She is the first Bangladeshi woman to be appointed to this position. The NCPCR has deployed the CiSS application on the Baal Swaraj portal. | The CiSS application was released by the National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) to aid in the rehabilitation of Children in Street Situations (CiSS). COVID care and CiSS are two services of the Baal Swaraj portal. It’s a website created by NCPCR. It was created to provide youngsters in need of care and protection with an online tracking and digital real-time monitoring system. COVID Care Link is a programme that assists children who have lost one or both parents as a result of COVID-19 or other causes after March 2020. It follows a six-stage paradigm for children’s recovery. |
China has overtaken the United States as the largest importer of Indian broken rice. | It is presently the world’s largest importer of Indian broken rice. Previously, Indian broken rice was mostly sold to African countries. In the financial year 2021-22, China imported 16.34 lakh metric tonnes (LMT), or 7.7% of India’s total rice export of 212.10 LMT. Nearly 97 percent (15.76 LMT) of China’s total rice imports from India (16.34 LMT) was broken rice. India exported 38.64 LMT of broken rice to 83 countries in 2021-22. China obtained the most (15.76 LMT) of this total. In 2020-21, China only procured 2.73 LMT. India’s total rice exports (basmati and non-basmati) were 212.10 LMT in 2021-22. This is up 19.30% from the 177.79 LMT shipped in 2020-21. Rice exports to China grew by 392.20 percent from 3.31 LMT to 16.34 LMT between 2020-21 and 2021-22. In 2021-22, basmati rice made for 39.48 LMT of India’s total rice exports. Exports in 2020-21 were 46.30 LMT, which was a decrease from the previous year’s 46.30 LMT. The majority of India’s rice exports are made up of non-basmati rice. The export of rice other than basmati was 172.62 LMT in 2021-22. |

Rahul Srivatshav has been named the 74th Grandmaster of India. | Rahul Srivatshav P. of Telangana became India’s 74th Grandmaster during the 9th Cattolica Chess Festival 2022 in Italy, breaking the 2500 (Elo points) barrier in live FIDE ratings. The 19-year-old player hit the 2500 Elo live rating threshold after drawing his eighth round game against Grandmaster Levan Pantsulaia at the Cattolica event. When Srivastava passed the 2500 rating level, he had already achieved five GM criteria and earned the championship. To become a GM, a player must acquire three GM norms and a live rating of 2,500 Elo points. Bharath Subramaniyam became the country’s 73rd Grandmaster in January 2022. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw introduced a novel concept called “StartUps for Railways.” | By enlisting the support of a large and underserved startup ecosystem, the policy aims to enhance scalability and efficiency in the areas of operation, maintenance, and infrastructure creation. The goal is to encourage young entrepreneurs to think of new ways to improve operational efficiency and safety. In line with the Indian Railways Innovation Policy, the innovator can now receive a grant of up to Rs 1.5 crore on an equal-sharing basis, with a provision for milestone payments. The innovator would be chosen under this policy through a transparent and fair process that will be managed through the Indian Railway Innovation Platform, a newly developed online portal. |
In the Andaman Sea and the Straits of Malacca, the 38th India-Indonesia Coordinated Patrol began. | The 38th India-Indonesia Coordinated Patrol (IND-INDO CORPAT) brings together Indian Navy and Indonesian Navy units from the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC). It will take place in the Andaman Sea and the Malacca Straits from June 13 to June 24, 2022. The 38th IND-INDO CORPAT is the two countries’ first post-pandemic Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT). From June 13 to 15, 2022, Indonesian Navy forces will visit the Andaman & Nicobar Command (ANC) at Port Blair. From June 23 to 24, 2022, there will be a Sea Phase in the Andaman Sea, as well as a visit by Indian Navy units to Sabang (Indonesia). CORPAT has been conducted by the Indian and Indonesian navy along their International Maritime Boundary Line since 2002. |

India’s rating outlook has been downgraded from Stable to Negative by Fitch Ratings. | Its prediction for FY23 GDP growth has been cut to 7.8%. In March, the economy is expected to increase at an annual rate of 8.5 percent. Because of India’s strong economic recovery, the prognosis has shifted from negative to stable, implying that downside risks to medium-term growth have decreased. Fitch Ratings altered India’s outlook from stable to negative in June 2020. Fitch Ratings has maintained its BBB- grade. Since August 2006, India’s rating has stayed at BBB-. Between FY24 and FY27, it expects growth of roughly 7%. The debt-to-GDP ratio is expected to fall to 83 percent in the current fiscal year, down from 87.6 percent in 2020-21. |
The Technology Development Board will develop a one-billion-dollar start-up fund. | The Technology Development Board (TDB), a statutory agency under the Department of Science and Technology, intends to develop a 1000-crore startup fund. It will be introduced in two stages as a public-private collaboration. In the first phase, a corpus of 400 crores would be established.
